Group Policy Editor and the Office Tool Kit

I needed to take advantage of the 20GB size limit for an OST file with Outlook 2003 I found references to an ADM file called OUTLK11 and instructions to load it into the group policy editor but nothing on how to do that.  I guess they assumed if you were stupid enough to mess in the group policy editor that you knew how to use it.   Ive mess around with the policy editor enough over the years to be dangerous but Im no expert.  Heres what I found:

Microsoft Resources

First download the Microsoft Office 2003 Administrators Pack.  The administrator pack templates are included in Office Service Pack 2 and for earlier versions go here http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011513601033.aspx

More Information on Outlook PST files is here

All of these instructions are simplified into this Microsoft KB article:

Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 885682

SBAS Internal Documentation

I needed to make the Outlook OST files larger than 2gb for one of my primary users and there were no instructions on the net so here they are.

Start->Run

MMC

In the MMC console select File-> Add/Remove Snap-in.

Click Add

Select Group Policy  and Click Add

Now comes the hard part.   If you just want this change to effect the computer you are working on click finish to select the local computer.   If you want this setting to work Domain wide or through one of your organizational units then you would click browse and select the portion of the network you want this to work on.  DO NOT choose something other than your local computer if you dont know exactly what you are doing.  You can really mess things up.   Best to stay on the local computer until youre sure you have it right.  Then you can change over to the domain and try it there.

Right click on Administrative Templates

Select Add and then OUT LK11.ADM

Now expand out the tab Microsoft Office Outlook 2003->Miscellaneous->PST Settings.  Select Enable and Enforce Unicode PST to guarantee the 20 GB OST files.
